The Common Sense Platform for Tupelo, Mississippi

Rob Chambers is the common-sense Republican candidate running for mayor of Tupelo—committed to bringing transparency, efficiency, and accountability to city government. With more than 20 years of experience in government relations and a dedication to serving the public, Chambers believes Tupelo can be a safer, stronger, and more prosperous community. Rob Chambers asks for your vote to lead Tupelo forward with principled leadership, economic growth, and a commitment to its citizens.
Priorities Include: improving public safety, fiscal management, job growth, and issues with the homeless, among others.
Why I’m Running for Mayor of Tupelo
“I’m asking you to vote for me for Tupelo mayor because I desire to serve all of Tupelo. I believe my 20+ years in government relations experience and lifelong experience of working with the public qualify me to serve you and your family—which I will do with all of my being.” —Rob Chambers

My vision for leading Tupelo is to work with citizens, the faith community, businesses, and other organizations to make Tupelo the best place in the world to live and visit, and raise children—but to make this happen, Tupelo government must first become transparent, efficient, and accountable to its citizens. It’s just common sense in government.
Rob’s Priorities:

Improving Public Safety
The safety of our citizens is a top priority, and I believe that a strong police force with an increased presence in Tupelo is fundamental to employment growth and opportunity in our city. I have worked with current and previous Mississippi governors and state legislators to strengthen public safety laws and to increase funding. I can and will do the same for all of Tupelo. Alongside an increased police presence is an equally strong fire department. The fire department is typically the first responder to an emergency. I will work with the Tupelo City Council to secure the funding necessary to increase their training and to provide for their equipment needs to better serve all citizens of Tupelo.
A secure community having a strong and improving educational and healthcare system is a magnet for new business to the area. We need more jobs that meet all skill levels in our area, and I will not passively rely upon the state to bring jobs to our area. Tupelo has the space and infrastructure necessary for future employers, and I will diligently work to help make that happen so that you can have greater opportunities to provide for yourself and your family.
Reducing Homelessness
Tupelo has a growing homeless population that is adversely impacting tourism throughout Tupelo as well as the safety and security of our citizens and their property. Salvation Army is already stretched beyond capacity, and I will work to find a solution that helps the homeless while also protecting your public safety.
Fairness in Tax Accounting
It’s difficult for families to better provide for their family and children when inflation keeps going up while wages remain stagnant. Compounding this problem is the fact that Tupelo taxes and spending keep going up. This is a likely reason the city population has been on the decline for the past several years.
Over the past three and a half years Tupelo ad valorem taxes have increased from $7.5 million in 2020 to $8.7 million in 2024. During the same time period, Tupelo spending increased from $38.4 million to $48.7 million. The mayor’s annual executive budget increased over $400,000. Meanwhile, during the 2020-2024 time period, the Tupelo Police and Fire Department’s personnel budget increased by only about $1 million each—when the overall budget increased by over $10 million.
Creating a Friendlier Business Climate
Conducting business in Tupelo is met with too much red tape and regulation. I will work to streamline the building permitting process and code enforcement so builders and developers will have a more efficient process to get their jobs started and completed for citizens of Tupelo. I will also work with code enforcement to to ensure this process is uniformly applied.
